Looking out on slopes and hills
Forest covers the land
Only from this granite knoll
Can be seen the valley below
Once the slopes were shorn
To make fields for the family cow
Stones moved to the edges
To make ready for the plow
Then looking out on slopes and hills
Grasses covered the land
One could see from anywhere
The slopes and hills and valleys below
Soon there will be views again
The valley will be bare
Forest fed into the fires
Fueling our desires

Fences scarring the land
Dividing food from biofuel

The trees will grow once more
